Day 1: Fes – Merzouga
Today is a busy day. It is a long drive from Fes to Merzouga, but we’ll make several short 20-minute or so stops along the way. The first stop will be at Ifrane, also known as “the Switzerland of Morocco.” It is a very small town but so unique for its architecture and cold climate. The next stop is at Azrou’s cedar forest, famous for the presence of Barbary apes. If we’re lucky, the apes will be around, and you’ll have the chance to feed them by hand. We’ll also stop at Midelt and Errachidia. And we’ll pass by the gorgeous Ziz Valley on our way to see fossils in Erfoud. Our last stop will be at Rissani to do some shopping at the souk.
We’ll briefly stop at Sahara Desert Hotel for a cup of tea. Then we’ll cross the desert dunes of Erg Chebbi by camel to go to our camp. We will have a beautiful evening watching the desert sunset and enjoy Berber dinner and music by the campfire at our luxury camps.
Day 2: Camel ride and 4×4 Excursion
On day 2, we’ll enjoy a desert excursion in Merzouga with a local guide. We’ll visit Khamlia village and a Nomad museum in the village of Hassilabie. Then we’ll visit Rissani and eat Berber pizza. Finally, we’ll head back to our camp via camel. We’ll cross the desert dunes and enjoy the Saharan sunset. As always, we’ll enjoy Berber dinner and music by the campfire at our luxury camps.
Day 3: Merzouga – Todra Gorges
We’ll wake up early to enjoy the desert sunrise, and then depart from Merzouga to Todra Gorges. We’ll stop in Rissani, Erfoud to see exhibits of marbles and fossils. Then we’ll take the Road of 1,000 Kasbahs towards Tinghir to explore the nearby Todra Gorges, a narrow canyon famous among rock climbers.
Day 4: Todra Gorges – Ouarzazate
After breakfast, we’ll head back to Ouarzazate, passing through the Dadès Valley and go up to the mountainous area through an off-road trail where we can find many Berber villages and nomads living in caves. We will get to meet one of these families and see how they live, with their herds of goats and sheep. You will be amazed by the scenery of the beautiful Rose Valley before reaching the Skoura Oasis. Finally, we’ll reach Ouarzazate and stay overnight.
Day 5: Ouarzazate – Marrakech
We will spend the last day sightseeing in Ouarzazate and explore the UNESCO kasbahs of Ait Benhaddou in a guided tour. We’ll finish our tour in Marrakech after crossing the High Atlas Mountains. Our driver will drop you off at your accommodation in Marrakech.
